We're in Pretoria and KFC's still open

Greetings!

Made it to Pretoria last night (or was it morning?) after a breezy 25 hour travel jaunt which included two 7hr + flights and a lengthy stopover in Dubai. After a brief airport pick-up mix-up we were off to a nearby guesthouse where we grabbed a lift which transferred us to Pretoria, about 40 mins away. Things seemed very Western city-style, including nice wide, paved highways until the driver (a Belfast ex-pat) crouched low in his seat trying to point out giraffes along the roadside. Definitely one of those "Where are we?" moments.

Seems great here so far - everyone very friendly and it smells like a forest even in the city. Pretoria is very developed, so it's got all the requisite fast food joints, including KFC (side note: we've actually been on a quest over the last few weeks to get a picture of Colenal, who is far, far heavier in Asian - and fingers crossed - South African depictions). Also saw Wimpy's, McDonalds and possibly Burger King (the BK Lounge). Also some place called Steer's.

More posts of greater cultural significance to follow soon
