If you’re visiting this page you already know the story: Tim and Laura were in serious danger of growing up, so they packed all of their earthly belongings into storage and headed off to Southeast Asia and Africa for 10 months of once-in-a-lifetime travel and volunteer work.We’ll spend four months in Southeast Asia starting in Bangkok and basically follow a clockwise route throughout the region. In March, we travel from Malaysia to South Africa. Once there, we’ll take a “J’ shaped route that tacks West to Namibia, then back through Eastern Africa up to Kenya. We’ll fly out of Nairobi in August with a brief stop in London and Ireland, then back home to Toronto.

Where is your stuff?
It’s in storage. The unit is temperature-controlled and insured. We may consider living there for a few months upon our return.

Are you crazy?
At this point it’s hard to say. Especially because of the antimalarials we’ve been taking over the last month.

No more so than the considerable impact they have on all the other decisions we make in life.
Are you backpacking?
Technically yes – we’ve got an 80 litre pack (Tim’s) and a 60 litre pack (Laura’s). However, since we’re traveling for so long, we’ll stay in each place for a while - especially when volunteering.
Why is there a terrifying wild animal in all the travel photos?
That’s just Laura’s hair in 90 percent humidity.
Can I come?
